Diagnosis

I had been praying that the results of swallow study would give us a clear answer to Jonathan's ills, and the results are in: it appears that he has been microaspirating due to immature muscles in his throat.

The solution is easy but not ideal. He must be bottlefed with thickened milk which means I will be pumping breastmilk then bottle-feeding him. Thankfully I have at least one enthusiastic helper.

All three boys are in love with their brother although this is manifest in different ways.

Stephen is always anxious to hold and feed Jonathan and is pretty careful. Matthew kisses and pats the baby and eagerly shared a train and race car with him.

And while Andrew can usually be found studying a book, oblivious to the rest of the goings-on (unless is involves some kind of sugary treat at which point he will suddenly appear with a shining smile), he has his affectionate moments, too.
That is, until the scientific side takes over. Upon their arrival home the other night, Andrew immediately started asking questions about what happened to the blood vessels in Jonathan's umbilical cord.
My little bookworm.

  1. Glad you know what the problem is and thankful that it's something relatively easy to fix (I say that not being the one to have to pump.) You can at least get Doug in on some of those middle of the night feedings :) Love your new family picture and so happy everyone is all together at home now. I'm sure it's been a long couple of weeks for you guys.
