Baby Bonanza

It seems these days that everyone and their sister is pregnant so I've been all aflutter preparing gifts for the new arrivals. After hustling the children to their rooms to"rest" this afternoon, I settled down to whip up a batch of burp cloths from fun fabric the boys & I found at Hobby Lobby.

I wish I had had some formal (or even informal) sewing training. Aside from a couple of hours with a patient friend and my mother rescuing me from strangled bobbins, it has been a learn-as-you-go process. It is a lot of fun when things go smoothly; but ripping stitches (especially more than once) is not fun at all!

Well, my simple, straight line sewing project was not so simple. I was experiencing tension issues (both with myself and my stitches). Finally after struggling with the first of four cloths, I pulled out the 3 page manual for my machine. Seems that I have been improperly threading the needle for 5 years. Once this was fixed, sewing was a breeze. I think the other 3 were completed in 30 minutes (ironing and all).

The green solid and pink polka dot are flannel with either the cotton stripe or butterfly on the reverse. I love the butterfly pattern so much it almost makes me want a girl (but then I remember that I REALLY HATE PINK!

And finally, the finished project in a nice wooden tote snagged on clearance for $3!

  1. Those are really cute, and we have a lot of pink around here so they'd fit right in :) I laughed out loud about the threading of the machine - now think of all the stuff you will be able to make with ease. I'll have to do a blog post this week about my little crafting experience of melting crayons - very frustrating!
