April Fool's Day 2016

It was an awful precedent to start: fooling the kids once a year.

There have been Tricky Tacos and Chocolate Colored Bunnies.  Last year was a Breakfast Casserole made of icing and cereal (it looked about as unappetizing as it sounds but the kids loved it) and another year we had faux pizza.

And seeing as I have not been to the grocery store since before Easter, the cupboard is bare.  It's been a struggle to provide meals let alone create something to wow the kids.

A quick internet search showed a picture that I thought just might work and seeing as we have some kind of dessert on Friday, I could easily get by without raising their suspicions.

They appeared as innocent chocolate cupcakes, but the inside held a special treat: a hunk of carrot.

Most of the kids laughed it off; Stephen even ate his; but someone had a terrible reaction.

And as Andrew couldn't eat these treats, I had to come up with something else.  One idea from the web suggested replacing Oreo filling with toothpaste.  This didn't seem quite fair so I lessened the impact by hollowing out a small hole from a slice of a large marshmallow, filling it with toothpaste, and placing it between two chocolate cookies.  I'm proud to say he took the trick graciously.
