Saturday Night Entertainment

Earlier in the week the boys announced that they had a party planned for Saturday night.  They drew up a list of the night's activities.

If you can't make it out, here's the list:

Games (Army checkers, alien shooting, knockout)
Paper hat making class, beanbag toss
Acts 2 (Josie dance, Jonathan comic demonstration, Matthew's gymnastics, Stephen's soap carving, building strong)
Play (Free range dance)
Closing cupcake
Sponsored by: Ultra Agents LEGO City

They tweaked their plans, practiced and decorated for the big event.

The lighting was terrible for pictures so I will just have to summarize.

The evening began with an assortment of games, complete with prizes.  One could choose from shooting aliens with a Nerf gun to knocking down cans with a slingshot or playing Army checkers.  Doug was awarded a shiny badge for his successful destruction of aliens,  and I received a notepad for my slingshot skills.

Josie was first up on stage (a folded out futon).  She performed an amazing dance, inspired no doubt by the local high school soul dancers who performed in one of the recent parades.  The girl has moves.  But it's all fun and games until you pee in your pants and require a wardrobe change.

On to Act 2.

Jonathan entertained us all with his reading of hand-drawn comic strips, one of their favorite pastimes.  Unfortunately, he was unable to display the pictures and read them, so we got to use our imagination.  "Bam."  "Zap."  "Huh?"  "AAHHHHHH!"  After number three, we clapped and called for a bow!

Matthew donned his Scout uniform and recited some of his work from the year.  Stephen then proceeded to interview him about his experiences a Tiger.  Thankfully he had favorable things to say about his den leader.

Jonathan jumped in between acts to tell a joke.  That we'd heard before.  Numerous times.

Next up was Stephen who did a live demonstration of soap carving and simultaneously gave us tips for safely using a pocket knife.

Andrew finished up with a talk about Building Strong.  He introduced us to three different methods for creating building with LEGOs and explained why certain methods are stronger than others.

And to cap the evening off was the event I had been anticipating all week long: Free Range Dance!  Some people prefer Free Range Eggs and Free Range Chicken; we just dance.

But next year?  I'm told this is to be an annual event so we may have a Free Range Chicken Dance next time.
