Turtle Fun

Little Eddie was fond of animals.  He brought all of the stray animals home with him.  Stray cats, stray dogs, birds that had fallen out of their nests, turtles, snails, garter snakes; anything that was alive, Eddie brought them home with him.  He was always getting fish heads from the market for the cats, saving bones for the dogs, catching flies for turtles, and putting snails and garter snakes in boxes.  His mother complained that every stray cat for miles around could smell the fish heads, and that they all made tracks for the Wilsons' back door; that every stray dog in the neighborhood knew Eddie's address and that he was always good for a bone.  His father said if Eddie brought home another turtle, he would make soup of it.  But none of this discouraged Eddie.  He didn't think that the complaining done by his mother and father meant anything.
Carolyn Haywood, Little Eddie

It seems that around here we have three Little Eddies.

Today's victim was an unassuming box turtle who happened to be in
the wrong place at the wrong time.

The boys begged and begged to bring it home (in the van!).

That idea was squashed with a call to Dad.

"But he never lets us bring anything home!"

The poor creature tolerated being man-handled and one accidental dropping.
It was really fascinating to study it up close.  I never knew that they can hiss.

All good things must come to an end, however, and he was released from captivity.

Only he turned around and went the wrong way.

Seems he preferred the dirty "green" river.

I love these boys and their "finds".
