The Doughnut Shop

We recently discovered a new doughnut shop in town that happens to be owned by a neighbor. Dense and rich, both the chocolate and blueberry varieties were reminiscent of ones from my childhood.

Unfortunately all the recipes I've seen contain both eggs and milk, but I promised Stephen last week that when he outgrows the egg allergy we will go to Krispy Kreme and watch the machines in action.

In the meantime, I received a new milk/egg/peanut free cookbook in the mail. Flipping through the pages full of beautiful pictures of food we may actually want to eat, I immediately seized upon the Apple House Cinnamon Doughnut

Of course, my helpers have their clear roles: Stephen assists in the preparation and Andrew is our official taste tester, but this time Andrew donned an apron and did a great job of cutting out the circles.

These were a hit, especially the holes (who can resist a yummy ball of hot grease and cinnamon sugar?).
But which recipe will we try next?

  1. Those looks scrumptious! I have no known allergies, but would LOVE that recipe if you have a spare minute to email it to me :)

  2. YUM! We were just lamenting the loss of donuts in our diet. What is the name of the cook book?
