The Beach Routine

When we go to the beach, we go to the beach; there's not much else on the agenda.

6:30 am:  The kids are up and filling their bellies with junky cereal and the first adult to stumble into the kitchen makes coffee.

6:45 am:  A group, consisting of at least one adult and a varying number of kids, will take a stroll on the beach while breakfast is prepared.

7:15 -8:00 am:  An intricate dance ensues while 18 individuals fix their own breakfasts (more junky cereal, eggs, etc.), eat and gather snacks for the morning.  Last man in gets to clean up (thanks, mom - it's the trade-off of a quiet breakfast, right?)

8:15 am:  The first waves of people hit the beach, laying claim to a large swath of sand for forts, castles, nuclear power plants, etc.

9:00 am:  The natives are complaining of an emptiness in their bellies (yes, they have eaten twice in the last three hours).

11:45 am:  Slowly, small groups head back to the house; some will swim, some will soak in the hot tub, some prepare lunches.

1:15 pm:  Everyone needs some downtime - some will nap, some read, some play intense games of chess.

2:30 pm:   Generously, Nana plays some games complete with prizes (tattoos & candy).

3:30 pm:  We slip into suits again and slather up the "sunscream" for another round at the beach and bocce ball.

5:30 pm:  Some cook, some swim, some watch Pink Panther.

6:15 pm:  Dinner is served!  We had three eating areas this year which was really nice for spreading out a lot of bodies and voices.  (Low country boil is always on the menu).

7:00 pm:  Andy Griffith was a big hit for entertainment (especially with some unwelcome rain).

8:00 pm:  The Book Mobile arrives each year via Virginia, and the kids all make their choices for bedtime reading.

The adults visit, play games or go to bed as needed (sadly, we were in bed at 9 a couple of nights in order to be up and ready before sunrise the next morning).
