Two Celebrations: Part One

Excepting Stephen's friend party last fall, we've kept birthday celebrations pretty low key with just family.  It's sweet, simple, and (generally) stress-free.

Last weekend we happened to be visiting my parents, and I mentioned maybe doing an early birthday for Josie.  My dad replied, "That would be fun."  Really, who is going to turn down an excuse to eat cake?

A trip to Big Lots yielded a variety of candies that easily transformed a basic cake into a beauty.

And because we have to be difficult, there was a second (gluten-free) cake for part of the family.

I think she was pleased!  And at my mother's request, she opened her gift a week early.

There is never a shortage of helpers.

I wished I had taped her squeals (which were nearly equal to mine when my mother called a few weeks ago to tell me of her yard sale score!).

The peace was broken when Tornado Jonathan blew into town, upsetting the neat arrangement.

Peace quickly returned and all was well in vintage play land.
