We've been soaking in the sunshine and enjoying the fresh air for the last week, and the wildlife in our yard has been especially interesting.
Bluebird
Matthew, who describes all objects as
blue, started making noises while looking out the window one morning. A pair of bluebirds were inspecting a birdhouse in our front yard, taking turns going in and out and scoping out the neighborhood. I'm not sure if they actually took up residence, but they continue to be spotted in the yard.
Eastern Towhee

This bird's ridiculous antics have amused us all. I was going about my business one day while the boys played outside when I started to hear a tapping at the front door. I thought it was Matthew knocking since he can't reach the handle. Turns out it was this goofy bird attacking itself. I'm not sure when he's going to realize it's only his reflection.
A Blackbird perhaps?

Andrew first brought this bird to my attention. I had heard lots of commotion in our gutters, and it seems this bird was either nesting or incredibly clumsy and fell into the downspout. If he had continued on, he could have escaped, but he spent at least a day in the crook where the two pieces meet. The boys stuck worms and bugs down to feed him, and finally Doug cut him free. And where did he go? He automatically flew up to the gutter.
Rabbit

We've enjoyed doing yardwork, and as I was parking a wheelbarrow behind the house I happened to look down and see this little fellow not a foot away. He stayed long enough for Andrew to retrieve my camera and has reappeared since. I hope he's not checking out our lettuce bed.
The Snake: closet variety

We suspected that our clogged toilet had something to do with a certain 2 year old's fondness for flushing toothbrushes so Doug was forced to go fishing. He landed two, but the other two got away.
The bird attacking itself is hilarious! I had to go inspect the fort for the witch and ghost book - turns out it is an I Spy book of haunted houses. I had forgotten all those I Spy book were out there - hope no one was too scarred.
