Good Friday

Easter is full of traditions.
  • Last night we had a Maundy (which we learned means "new commandment") Thursday service followed by a potluck dinner. I guess the Powers-That-Be didn't have faith in the power of luck and took matters into their own hands by assigning dishes based on last names. The meager offerings (supplemented with fried chicken) were multiplied like the bread and fishes, but the boys feasted on Coke & Oreos.
  • In celebration of Holy Week, the boys insisted on repeating the Easter Lesson Rolls from last year. Stephen loved to tell me the story about how Jesus disappeared while Andrew made sure that the rolls themselves disappeared (he ate at least half the batch).
  • While on a walk Andrew subtly mentioned that he really likes cars. Especially Ramone. "And do you think that we will have Easter baskets this year?" Which led into a conversation about the real meaning of the holiday. "Well, I think you get Easter baskets with gifts because Jesus was a gift to us." I'm sure that as good an explanation as any.
  • No dyeing of eggs this year (we'll save that for Grandma's house), but we had a trial egg hunt in the backyard. Matthew was quick to catch on and held tightly to his finds shouting, "Mine! Mine!"
