Monkeys

A neighbor once said that our family single-handedly served as Neighborhood Watch because we were always out and about, watching any activity/repairs/excitement that might be taking place.

Now we're the Hospitality Committee.

With a high around 72 and perfect blue skies, the boys spent most of the afternoon outdoors. (Clara, I did have to employ your cleaning threat, though). When the little guys woke up, Stephen wanted to visit an elderly couple just down a few houses but they weren't on their porch so we continued walking.

Another neighbor was working in her yard and the boys immediately took to her magnolia tree, inspired by the woods and characters of Redwall.

(Didn't you know that cowboy boots - or "bad boy boots" - serve as acceptable climbing gear?)

Stephen must be part monkey; he's perfectly at home in a tree. (And yes, he does have other shirts but he seems to be wearing this one when I take pictures).

Andrew preferred to whack at the tree limbs with a stick and direct play rather than actually exert himself by climbing. We wouldn't want him to become too fatigued.
I discovered that what I perceived as a chance to show kindness to those who live around us was actually a ploy to have a new space for play. That's okay. I enjoy talking with adults for a change and the boys provide a great deal of entertainment. Everyone wins.

  1. Wasn't it beautiful yesterday? I have a new tactic now. After the kids have played outside a while and are ready to come in I'll offer them a Popsicle which of course they have to eat outside. They'll eat, get their second wind and play a while longer :)
