A Few Crazy Days

I've come to expect the week following a trip or hosting company to be dicey; in this case, we've done both and added illness to the mix. The bright sunshine and spring temperature helps tremendously, though, and things are going well so far.

We rushed back from Virginia last week in time to attend a retirement celebration for our beloved pediatrician Dr. Jenkins. After 37 years of service to the parents and children of Chattanooga, he hung up his stethoscope. We'll miss him dearly!

"The Cousins" (a collective term since the boys confuse the names of their two sets of relatives) of Waynesville, NC descended upon our small home Thursday. Despite the added noise and lack of sleep, the kids played well together and the adults had a good visit. They even found a dead bird.

Abby was a huge help with Matthew,
and she even helped Andrew pick out his clothes.

This may well be the first shot of the cousins in which no one is crying
(Matthew couldn't eat popsicles so he isn't present).

On Friday we attempted to visit the Tennessee Aquarium, but numerous roads were closed for an Armed Forces Day Parade and the road was literally blocked by hundreds of school buses parked in the streets. We decided the Pumpkin Patch, a local playground, would be a better idea. The kids had a blast swinging,

digging,

sliding,

and snuggling.

On Saturday, Sara and I braved the wind and rain to drag the kids to the aquarium. They really enjoyed the penguins, sharks, jellyfish and seahorses.

But by the end, Stephen was ready to go home.

Unfortunately Doug didn't get to enjoy these activities; he was laid out with a bug, and it seems Andrew and Matthew both have ear infections. We've now seen 2 of the 3 pediatricians in the new practice.
