The Big Baby

She kind of reminds me of Mae in Shirley Hughes story "Angel Mae"  who is just certain she can squish herself into the Christmas manger so that she can be baby Jesus.

They certainly grow up quickly.

Overheard

"I've got to tell you what I heard your son say."

I'm sure my whole-body-cringe was visible; that's a terrifying way to start a conversation.

Apparently another child in his class was talking about playing video games.

Jonathan told his teacher:
"My dad says video games are a waste of time, but I told him watching football was a waste of time."

Tootsie

What a girl!

I wonder how much of her personality has been shaped by the influence of her brothers.

She holds her own with them: racing, story-telling, screaming.

She can switch gears, issuing orders and directing play.

She has a charming, girly side as well and delights in all things pink & purple.

I want to bottle this moment, the giggles and grins and squeaky talk.

Artistic Expression

In my idealistic routine (NOTE: routine not schedule) for our day, an hour each afternoon is devoted to quiet art projects.  Reality is that our house is never quiet and art comes and goes based on weather and whims.

The temperatures were low and spirits were high.  Matthew pulled out a spirograph he received for Christmas and got to work designing unknown planets.

Thankfully we had another set in the basement so there were plenty of pieces to go around.

Did you ever have a spirograph?  I still remember going to the Mercer Mall and purchasing one at Hills.

The little ones were not to be left out.  While I'm not so brave as to try these paints, I got out our Do-A-Dot paints.

It's hard to imagine she could see well enough to paint, but she managed.

It really was a great diversion for some stir-crazy children.
