Trick-or-Treat 2013

Presenting the Hamills:

Jonathan so appropriately dressed as a skunk;

Stephen, the white ninja;

Andrew, the black ninja;

Matthew, the soldier (and tank);

and Josie, the little ladybug.

The whole gang before the sugar-induced frenzy.
In the past I've just let them gourge themselves in the first day or two thus eliminating the constant requests for sweets (or temptation to parents!).  This time they hit a few more houses.
The candy was dumped on the kitchen table and sorted according to allergy (fun, huh?): peanut-containing items (which thankfully didn't include the small Hershey bars, much to Stephen's delight); milk but no nuts (Stephen safe); egg items (this is a surprising one - Sweettarts and Nerds may contain egg); and finally a jar that contains items safe for Matthew (though he's a little tired of Skittles).
Next week the extras may just go to work with Dad.

Nature Study Beach Style

One advantage of homeschooling is the mobility of the learning environment.

The one-house-schoolroom can also be a van.

Or a beach.

No worksheets.

No busywork.

Rather, the opportunity to be busy exploring.

To use one's God-given curiosity to learn more about His world.

His promises.

His creatures.

 Big.

And small.

Mid-Week Road Trip

Doug had a deposition last week in Orange Beach, AL so of course we had to tag along.

A day's drive down, a day at the beach and pool, and a day's drive back.  A fun escape.

Her Mirror Image

Matthew doesn't need a baby album to see what he was like as a newborn.

It's right in front of him.

"Knockies"

 Or "po-nickels"

I thought they were absolutely adorable, but the boys laughed at her and called them "horns."

I'm going to have to work on getting them even (and doing something about the pieces in the front), but I'm impressed she kept them in for church and then some.  Makes me smile!

Snapshot: 6:04 pm

I'm not sure what they were doing, but they remind me of the Lost Boys.

And look who's bringing up the rear?

The fun days of childhood.

Jonathan is Four

It's so hard to know exactly what to say about this boy, but one thing is certain,

we are so blessed to have him (must repeat to self as a reminder!), dimples and all!

In Disguise

It looks like just a little twig.

But sharp-eyed Andrew saw through the camouflage.

Is it crazy to take so many pictures of an insect?

I think we've all gotten bitten by the bug-finding bug.
