A Very Merry Unbirthday

Apparently Matthew spent the last three months living in guilt over not giving me a birthday card.

So right before church yesterday he sat down with paper and pencil to rectify the situation.

I love the fact that he knows there should be two letters that are the same only he's not quite sure which one.  "This writing business, pencils and whatnot, overrated if you ask me."

38 Weeks

Imagine this:  one rather pregnant woman in the back row of a minivan, crammed in the small space between a full size car seat and a booster trying to inconspicuously put on a bathing suit.

I get cramps just thinking about it.

"X" Marks the Spot

Stephen presented me with a map leading to buried treasure in the backyard.

What did I find?

A marble and a 4 cent stamp neatly enclosed in a plastic case which I was informed that I could use to store my valuables such a pretty earrings.

Baby Gift Backlog: Boy or Girl

These projects were actually completed ages ago (sometime during the winter) but got buried under mountains of stuff during our remodeling.   I pulled them out a few weeks ago, wrapped them nicely, and delivered them to some special friends.

This one has been waiting patiently for baby Patrick who just arrived this very afternoon!

My mother once delivered a baby blanket to our neighbor on her 10th birthday.   I used to think it quite funny, though like many other things, hindsight plus motherhood gives one a whole new outlook on things.  I'm sure there were other things to occupy my mother's time.

Well, in this case the birthday girl is just one (and some!).  I like to say that it took so long because I hand-stitched all those little stars (as if!), but in fact, it was an upcycled Pottery Barn bumper pad I found at the local "boutique."

I originally gave the latter quilt to said baby's grandmother who immediately remarked, "You have no sense!"  and when I relayed this conversation to my mother, she replied, "Did you tell her your husband says so too?"  I don't deny it, but it is so much fun to craft for a baby and I love to have something crafty to work on.  I've got a couple of other baby-related projects in the works, but we'll see how the time goes (it's going too fast for me!).

Overheard

Me:  Who wrote the Bible?

Matthew:  Chosen men who were expired by the Holy Spirit.

Overhead

Matthew was telling me the other day that when they grow up there will be lots of dads in the house.

Me:  Do you think you will get married one day?

Matthew:  I might marry Mrs. Parker when I grow up.

Stephen:  Well, she might be dead; she's kind of old.

The Bag Lady

She walked into our bedroom one morning with nothing but her winter hat and diaper, pushing her heavily loaded shopping cart.  I had to laugh.  "She looks like a homeless woman!"  Doug declared.

That's exactly what I thought, too!

White Washin' the Fence

It's been on the to-do list for quite a while: cleaning the fence.

I don't really have the time.

Or the energy.

But the kids do.

And they're always eager to earn a little money.

So they went to work.

And guess who stuck with it the longest?

Nana's Chicken

When Josie was born, my saint-of-a-mom not only came to take care of four active boys and a crazy post-partum mom, she brought food to stock our freezer.  With all our food restrictions, this is not an easy task.  One night after she was gone, I pulled out meatloaf to heat for dinner.

Matthew was quite impressed:  "Mmm, I love Nana's chicken."

And he really does.  I made some last night for dinner.  He had it again for breakfast and lunch!  I guess I need to go ahead and make some more for those upcoming post-partum days.

Baby Gift Backlog: Havin' a Ball

I've been slowly working through some late and upcoming baby gifts in those times when my back acts up and I need to sit down (anytime after 7pm?!).

I gave an IOU at a recent baby shower because I simply ran out of time to complete this ball.

It's done and delivered - on to the next project.

Rendezvous 2013

There's just something about going home...even if it isn't technically your home.
