Let Them Eat Cake

You can only keep the band of brothers away from cake so long.

Matthew still wasn't up to eating cake, but he had no trouble with blowing out the candles.

And while skulls, skateboards, and camo have always been on my black list, I caved for this boy.

He loves anything having to do with the military and excitely helped in the decorating.

Did you notice the blunder?  I didn't; the older boys pointed out that Matthew was in fact 5.

Thankfully the honoree didn't hold it against me.

Matthew is 5

From a tiny baby

(~ 1 week old - don't know if that explains the redness or it was early-onset-eczema)
 to this tough-as-nails eager- beaver.

We are so thankful for this boy, and the blessing he is to our family.

And we pray that he will receive quick healing to his body so he can finally taste his much-anticipated birthday cake.

Puny

Apparently a new crud is making it's rounds through town, and this little girl is the latest victim.

Small group at our house Saturday night was cut short when she emptied her stomach several times; our friends were gracious enough to say, "It seems you're a little busy and have other things to attend to" when in fact they were inwardly declaring, "Let's get out fast before we catch it, too!"

Sunday was calm and restful so we headed to church at 5.  I didn't want to take any chances with the nursery so I strapped Josie to my chest and we paced the back of the room.  Just as the pastor launched into his sermon I heard an ominous cough.  I quickly located Doug and the crew and we oh-so-not-discreetly made our way out.

Today involved lots of sleep which made schooling a lot easier, but she's still not up to snuff.  Hopefully it's the last hoorah and she'll keep it to herself.

A girl can always hope.

Double Blessing

What a joy to see the sun!

It seems like weeks since he made an appearance.  It wasn't too bad when everyone was feeling blah, but endless days of rain mixed with a household of energetic children makes for one cramped-feeling momma.

What a blessing to have kids burn off steam outdoors!

They did bring me the mail, and it was the icing on the cake.

I may or may not have sat down with a fresh cup of coffee to have a little peek.

Back in the Saddle

Happy New Year!

It's a little belated, I know.

Flu put me out of commission for at least a week, but I recovered just in time to tend to the ills of all my charges (Doug included).  We rang in the new year with fits of coughing and toasts of Robitussin and ibuprofen.  It wasn't exactly what I had planned.

2012 will forever serve as the year that I didn't wish my husband a happy birthday; I know he'll hold it against me for the rest of my life.  The kids sang, however, and Andrew made a card.  A week later he got a cake.

I think it was worth waiting for.

Everyone's back up to snuff, well, almost everyone (Doug's trying to get a cold but we're hoping he'll be selfish and keep it to himself).  Back to school, back to life, back to blogging.

Here's to a great 2013!
